Introducing LifeTrack

Sustainability in action

At Burgtec, we believe sustainability should be measured in actions, not promises. One of the most practical steps we can take is extending the life of products that are still in good condition. That’s why we’re introducing LifeTrack.

Today, too much office furniture ends up in landfill long before it has reached the end of its useful life. Workstations are often discarded at the close of a lease, during a refurbishment, or simply because a warranty has expired.

Our new LifeTrack program tackles this challenge head-on. It combines our focus on quality with a structured way to refurbish workstations so they last far longer. For clients, this means greater value from every investment. For the environment, it means fewer frames and components heading to landfill.

The fact is workstations make up about half of the spend in a typical office fit-out. They are also the single biggest item to be thrown out when a tenancy changes, yet many of these desks are far from worn out. Sit-stand mechanisms may only be used once or twice a day, adding up to just a few thousand cycles across a decade. In reality, a well-designed desk frame can last much longer.

With LifeTrack, we audit desks before they are replaced. Usage is tracked, frames are assessed, and warranties are extended with confidence. Our partnership with Linak, the global leader in sit-stand technology, adds further assurance. Their re-engineered mechanisms have been tested to perform well beyond industry norms.

Why did we develop this program? The desk frame is both the most durable part of a workstation and the component with the greatest carbon footprint. Replacing it prematurely is wasteful. LifeTrack retains the frame and refreshes what sits around it: electronics, surfaces, screens and finishes. Clients can update the look and feel of their office without discarding the heaviest and most carbon-intensive element.

This approach also saves money. Refurbishment and reconfiguration are less costly than full replacement, and they protect clients from rising material costs.

The effectiveness of LifeTrack depends on the quality of the products at its core. Cheap furniture is not built to last, nor can it be meaningfully refurbished. At Burgtec, we’ve always focused on well-engineered designs that can support multiple lifecycles. With tracking and auditing in place, we can guarantee performance based on actual use rather than an arbitrary timeline.

We believe LifeTrack represents a shift in how workplaces think about furniture. Instead of defaulting to replacement, businesses can now take a stewardship approach, keeping products in circulation for longer while also refreshing their workplace. This is sustainability in action. It reduces landfill, lowers embodied carbon, and delivers measurable savings. Most importantly, it proves that doing the right thing environmentally can also create long-term value for businesses.
