Burgtec’s scope encompassed bespoke furniture solutions throughout the terminal lounges and passenger concourses. Each piece was engineered to meet strict criteria for longevity, cleanability and accessibility under 24-hour public use. Responding to the terminal’s design palette, furniture colours and materials were inspired by the surrounding landscape, from the red soils of Badgerys Creek to the blue and green hues leading to the mountains. At least half of all seats incorporate integrated charging points, while accessibility features were integrated from the outset. The inclusion of soft furnishings within the terminal’s public areas set a new standard for Australian airports, pairing design sophistication with performance at scale.
The project demanded exceptional collaboration with an internationally recognised architectural team to uphold the integrity of the design vision while meeting technical and commercial requirements. Every element underwent multiple design reviews and approvals, ensuring compliance with the architect’s specification and the airport’s operational needs. Burgtec’s Central Coast manufacturing facility was instrumental in prototyping, testing and refining each product. The process, described internally as one of Burgtec’s most intensive to date, resulted in furniture that feels integral to the building rather than added after construction.

Western Sydney International Airport demonstrates Burgtec’s ability to deliver complex, design-driven public projects of national significance. The furniture package balances elegance and endurance, contributing to a seamless passenger experience that is both functional and distinctly local. As a certified Australian Made manufacturer, Burgtec’s work on this project reinforces its commitment to local industry, supporting Australian skills, materials and craftsmanship while delivering world-class design. This project also strengthened Burgtec’s internal capability, setting new benchmarks in documentation, quality assurance and stakeholder collaboration. By combining local manufacturing with design integrity, Burgtec helped realise an environment that will welcome travellers from around the world and stand as a showcase of Australian craftsmanship, innovation and identity.

“This is our most public and visible work to date, and it shows that Burgtec isn’t just about offices. It proves we can deliver complex, high-profile public projects with industry-leading collaborators.” — Joel Kennard, CEO, Burgtec
